How to Commission a Painting

Firstly, to commission a painting just email your favourite photograph(s) to me.

Please note photographs taken by a professional photographer cannot be used without permission.

Tell me the style of painting you want me to use;
watercolour effect,
acrylic effect or
oil effect.

Tell me what size you would like you picture to be.

The common size for a picture is 40*50cm. However, I am happy to paint up to a 70*100cm size. If you’re unsure I can advise on a suitable size based on the photo.

Tell me what you want in the picture, i.e. do you want a number of items from a mixture of photos, or do you require a copy of an image in one photo? What do you want in the background? What colour do you want the background to be?

Secondly, I will send you a no obligation quote, and if necessary I will talk with you to clarify your requirements.

Portrait size; the size of the painting, number of items in the painting; and the medium (acrylic or biro) are the main factors influencing portrait prices. I am happy to talk to you about which photograph best captures the image you wish to display. Together we can decide upon the composition, size and background colour to your picture. Once these are known I will give you a personalised firm quote in UK Sterling which is my currency. You can get an idea of prices from my Price Guide.

Thirdly, you pay a Deposit.

To enable me to cover my material costs I require a non-refundable 50% deposit before work commences. The painting remains my property until the full amount has been paid and has cleared.

Payment can be made by either funds transfer or by cheques made out to ‘Zoë Badstevener’. Otherwise, using PayPal is simple, quick and convenient.

Fourthly, I begin to create your picture.

To create a picture I will require a minimum of two weeks. If the picture is for a special occasion, please do tell me at the outset and we can discuss how I may accommodate your requirements (although this may be dependent upon my present work commitments).

Fifthly, you approve.

I will email you an image of the finished picture for you approval and make any final adjustments. Once you have approved the picture I will send you the final invoice, and prepare it for delivery

Finally, delivery!

Please see guide prices for postage costs. All paintings are initialled by me. I reserve the right to photograph these pictures to display on the website.
